iRest Yoga Nidra Meditation
iRest(r) Yoga Nidra Meditation is an experience of deep rest, nervous system restoration and an exploration of our deeper selves in a setting of complete and intentional safety and comfort. A 40-45 minute guided meditation takes us through the layers of body, breath, emotions, thoughts, and the experience of joy, all while allowing for the recognition of ourselves as pure Awareness.
Bolsters, blocks and blankets will be provided, but feel free to bring any additional props that will support a deeply relaxing posture. Typically, participants will rest in a lying down posture (akin to savasana/final relaxation in regular yoga classes) with a variety of supports for spine, knees, head and layers for warmth.
iRest is an amazing introduction to the deeper meditative practices of yoga. Though grounded in the historical traditions of Hindu Vedanta, Samkhya and Buddhism, it is a protocol presented in plain English, making it directly accessible to and profoundly effective for a wide variety of populations. It has been especially helpful in treating trauma in groups such as active and non-active duty military veterans and first responder communities (police/firefighter/EMT/paramedic).
