Links!

Some of the people out there in the Interworld I most admire often post a list of stuff – links to stuff rather – that they’re reading, using, otherwise deriving some life benefit from: pleasurable pursuits, art and beauty, food, skill, diversion/humor, music, books of course or articles of interest. Here in order of no particular importance are some of the things I go to on a regular basis for inspiration. It goes without saying that I spend a fair amount of time learning more about yoga so that I can then share more with you. Enjoy!

101cookbooks.com – this comes to mind first because Heidi Swanson used to do such great lists. If you’re into meatless, globally inspired cooking you’ll want to bookmark this one. I’ve had this recipe in my browser for months trying to find all the requisite chilis: https://www.101cookbooks.com/spicy-coconut-milk-dressing-for-everything/#recipe

I’ve been incorporating free weights into my teaching lately with nearly every client. These two Instagram accounts are run by amazing women whose posts I save to work with later on my own, then bring into my teaching with you: Kathryn Bruni-Young https://www.instagram.com/mindfulstrength.ca/ and Amanda Thebe https://www.instagram.com/amanda.thebe/

I will continue to recommend James Nestor’s book on breath from now until forever: https://www.mrjamesnestor.com/

In my capacity as a volunteer yoga teacher with Warrior Spirit Project, I get to take advantage of some amazing continuing education. I’m currently training to teach iRest (Integrative Restoration/Yoga Nidra Meditation). This is next level yoga philosophy combined with neuroscience and furthers my education around the benefits of yoga for trauma and PTSD. The iRest Institute offers a wealth of online content and resources: https://www.irest.org/resources. Kelly Boys also teaches a form of Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) called NSDR (non sleep deep rest). Her work lives here: https://www.kellyboys.org/

Kelly Boys’ work reminds me to remind you about the Waking Up app, as she was a guest on a recent episode of the Waking Up podcast. I’ve been using Waking Up as an aid to create some structure and consistency around my meditation practice pretty much since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Though an annual subscription gets you so much more than just a daily reminder: Podcasts and a whole library of meditation practice series. https://dynamic.wakingup.com/shareOpenAccess/SC9269ED5

Reminding you about Waking Up reminds me to suggest Sam Harris’ “Making Sense” podcast, where he gets to talk with a wide variety of smart people about every other controversial thing that’s happening in world: https://www.samharris.org/podcasts

On the lighter side, these two podcasts add a little humor to my day: https://www.smartless.com/ with Jason Bateman and Will Arnett (Arrested Development) and Sean Hayes (Will & Grace) talking mostly to other actors and creatives in the film and TV industry (though Sean Hayes invited Sam Harris onto the podcast in an early episode!) is laugh out loud funny. And the two women at the Everything Is Fine podcast, Kim France and Jennifer Romolini cover issues pertinent to women over 40: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/everything-is-fine/id1491377174

Here’s one of those web presences that I love, but kind of hate that I love it at the same time?! I don’t even know why I started following @eye-swoon on IG. I have several architecture and design accounts I follow, and I likely stumbled on it through one of those. There’s a beautiful, Roman-esque woman swanning around her expensively furnished Brooklyn brownstone artfully arranging things. You know, IG eye candy. Then I found out she cooks. And has a whole website full of delicious food and recipes. I’ve been a little obsessed. If you can get past the OTT-ness of it all, the food is legit: https://eye-swoon.com/blogs/recipes
